Faith Hill's career began inauspiciously in 1986 when she dropped out of education in order to go to Nashville and follow her dream of being a country music singer. Her break came when she drew the attention of Warner Brothers Records during a performance in which she sang backup vocals for Gary Burr at a local café. By 1993 she had released Take Me as I Am which was very successful, including a cover of Erma Franklin's "Piece Of My Heart" which held the top spot on the Country charts for several weeks. She followed this with 1995’s It Matters to Me which sold over three million copies. During the following year she undertook the Spontaneous Combustion Tour with fellow country musician Tim McGraw, whom she later married. She took a break from music after her marriage, returning only briefly to record the No.1 single “It’s Your Love” with her new husband. She returned in earnest in 1998 with six-times platinum-selling Faith, which was altogether a more mainstream crossover record. She followed this with Breathe (1999) which went on to win three Grammy Awards. By the time Cry was released in 2002 she was less a country singer and more a pop singer, and in 2004 she was able to branch out into acting, making her debut in The Stepford Wives. Fireflies (2005) returned to her country roots and the hearts of her country fans, and she capitalized on this by undertaking her first tour for six years. Her most recent release is a greatest hits album The Hits (2007) which showcases the hits from her career and features two new songs.
