KNOWING GOD'S WISDOM VOLUME 1
How would you complete this sentence: When it comes to prayer. I ______________________ (tell your name)
Our answers usually fall into these categories:
• “I don’t pray enough.â€
• “I don’t know what to pray.â€
• “I don’t know if prayer does any good.â€
While some people speak glowing of their conversations with God, many of us view prayer as a struggle. We often experience doubt and disappointment instead of confidence and anticipation. The solution may be to deal honestly with our doubts and ask God to help us to put into practice the simple yet profound biblical principles of prayer.
On the other hand, it could be that we need to start with the most basic step of all. Perhaps you can’t say with confidence that you are a child of God, and that you are able to speak to Him as your loving, listening Father (Matthew 6:9 - After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.). If that is true, you need to know this:
• The barrier between you and God is sin. Every person is guilty and in need of God’s forgiveness (Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;).
•Jesus, the sinless Son of God, lived the perfect life you could never live (1 Peter 2:21-24 - For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 -Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 - Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 -Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.; Ephesians 2:8-9 -For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 -Not of works, lest any man should boast.).
•Jesus died to pay the penalty for all your sin, and His resurrection is proof that His sacrifice was acceptable to God (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 -For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 -And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:).
•You receive forgiveness by faith in Christ (John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.).
Tell God right now that you receive His free gift of forgiveness and trust Him to rescue you. The most important prayer you will ever pray is the prayer of salvation. It provides an unshakable foundation for all of the other prayers you will offer up to God.
