Korean Ginseng: An Important Herb with Many Benefits
Korean ginseng (panax ginseng) has been used for centuries throughout the Orient as an important herb for health. Today it is one of the most widely found and used herbs throughout the world. For many years, panax ginseng has been considered an herb capable of great healing and strengthening. Ginseng is classified as an adaptogen, a substance that helps restore the body to proper balance without side effects.
Extensive scientific research into the mechanisms of ginseng has led scientists to identify what they believe to be the primary active ingredients in ginseng — saponin triterpenoid glycosides, commonly called ginsenocides. Korean ginseng was found to have 28 ginsenocides that act on several body systems including the immune system, central nervous system, and cardiovascular system. Clinical research studies have shown that ginseng has significant effects in a variety of settings:
•Physical improvement and performance enhancement for athletes
•Mental performance improvement and mood enhancement
•Antifatigue and antistress actions
•Support of healthy blood sugar levels
•Antioxidant properties
•Support of healthy cholesterol levels
•Physical and mental improvement in the elderly
While studies have been extensive, more studies are needed to confirm specific health benefits.
Our Ginseng Extract is made exclusively from four- to six-year-old roots of panax ginseng C.A. Meyer (Araliaceae Family). This standardized extract ensures the presence of biologically active ginsenocides. The whole root powder is included as a source of other compounds that may be active but whose activity is currently unknown.
