This is a fossil clam which was collected from the shores of the Potomac River in Richmond County, Virginia.
The estimated age of this fossil is 8-10 million years old and comes from the Miocene Period.
The estimated dimensions of this fossil are 1.5 inches front to back and approx 1.75 inches side to side, some wear can be seen on the fossil from rolling in the surf but can clearly be seen as a whole fossil clam.
