I have closely examined the information you have submitted. Thank you for the images and descriptive information. My findings are based on this information. The sombreros have a sunflower design, and also depict a Mexican eagle devouring a snake standing on a cactus. A silver rope wraps around the base of the crown; the rim is also designed with the same rope design. The shot glasses have the sunflower design and matching scrolls on the top and the bottom of the shot glasses, Maciel was one of the finer silversmiths, and is ranked with Reyes, Spratling and Aguilar (Hector), Maciel worked out of Mexico City. The mark on the pieces of "sterling silver 925" is usually found on pieces from the mid 1930's to the mid 1940's, which is the date of your set. Very little is known about Maciel, except that this silversmith made candelabra, jewelry, spoons, and bowls. Many reproductions of Maciel's sombreros are on the market at this time; but Marciel's detail, quality and fine craftsmanship stand on its own merit.
