Built-In Leak Detector
1 - Turn the gas on
Leave the appliance off, but turn the gas bottle on.
2 - Turn the cylinder off
The system is now full of gas, but there is no more gas flowing into it.
3 - Watch the gauge
If everything is okay, the gauge needle should not move.
If there is a leak
If gas is leaving the system because of a leak, the needle will slowly fall. You will need to find the leak by praying soapy water onto all gas connections and along the hose. The appearance of bubbles will indicate where the leak is.
"Leak Test" Precedure:
Note: Never use LP gas without testing for leaks in the system
Turn OFF the gas supply at the cylinder.
Turn OFF all appliance burner controls.
With the appliance burner control(s) in the OFF position, turn gas cylinder valve
ON. This pressurizes all lines to appliance(s).
If it still does not indicate the tank level, you are out of gas or have not tighten the
gauge enough to get the reading.
Watch the needle position on the gauge. Wait for around 3 seconds and then CLOSE the cylinder valve. The Gas Meter now monitors pressure between the cylinder and appliance. Any leaks in the lines between the cylinder an appliance will be indicated by the needle movement towards Red Color.
If you find a leak - DO NOT USE GAS.
To find leak, apply soap solution to all connections and look for bubbles. An expanding bubble or bubbles indicate you have a leak.
Repair all leaks prior to using gas cylinder or appliances. Retighten where bubbles appear, recheck for leakage using the soap and water solution.
If bubbles persist - you still have a leak - STOP - DO NOT USE the propane cylinder or appliance(s). Have a qualified propane service person recheck your propane system and correct leaks before using the propane system outlet.
Gas Level Indicator
When the cylinder has sufficient gas
As long as there is a workable amount of gas in the cylinder, the GasMeter gauge will show you everything is okay (yellow or green sections.)
When the gas is low...
The needle will fall to the red section indicating the pressure is low and the cylinder will soon be empty.
Emergency Flow Restrictor
When there's no problem
GasMeter works in the background, letting normal amounts of gas through the lines and to your appliance.
When there is a problem
A typical scene is an unattended barbecue that catches fire. The fire spreads to the hose, which melts and ruptures. You now have a fire that is being fed with large quantities of gas straight from the cylinder.
GasMeter restricts the flow without you even being there
As soon as GasMeter detects abnormal gas flow, it restricts the flow to under 10%.
