In 1688 King James II and VII was overthrown by His own parliament and replaced with his daughter and son in law.
On penalty of death the King fled with his Queen and Infant Son the Prince of Wales and heir to his father's throne.
Eventually the throne went to a distance 2nd cousin who was 55th in line to the throne when King James was illegally deposed in an act of high treason and usurpation!
That heir was George the First, a German. ancestor of the current royal family. George was appointed as king because Parliament could now control all aspects of the government as long as the royal family removed their puppet!
