An Absolute Delight for Collectors of Freaks / Oddities in Philately
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This FDC is a unique combination of a "Philatelic Printing Error" & "The Printer's Devil".
Though many copies of the Printer's Devil will be available, the specimen is a RARE instance
of "Printer's Devil" & "Color Shift" combination & there are no more than 5 reported copies of
THIS "rare" VARIETY from Bhopal.
[ 3 people who possess it have consistently refused to sell it to me - over the last 40 years ]
The First Day Cover "ON DISPLAY & FOR SALE" is marked up so high because of TWO reasons
mentioned above which are explained below in detail:
(1) The stamp has a discernible color-shift with the flag mast & the edge of flag clearly carrying
a WHITE gap which is missing in the NORMAL stamps.
(2) The HINDI version of Special Cancellation is missing a crucial DOT ( . ) atop the alphabet
which converts BANGLA to "BAGLA" >>> In HINDI, the BAGLA is an egret [ a water bird ].
It was only in Bhopal ( a city in Central India ) that the DOT went missing atop the "BA".
BAGLA pronounced as BA ( *bu* in bud or bun ) - G ( *gu* of gum ) - LA ( usual as in Las Vegas )
BANGLA would have had BAN pronounced as *bun* with *u* more or less SILENT.
A better, rather EXACT, phonetic pronunciation for BANGLA would be *bung*LA.
