Mint: Denver Mintage: 704,135,528 Catalog: KM-164 Obverse Designer: John Flanagan Reverse Designer: John Flanagan Composition: Silver Fineness: 0.9000 Weight: 6.2500g ASW: 0.1808oz Melt Value: $3.96 (11/3/2013) Diameter: 24.3mm
Edge: Reeded
The 1964-D has a spectacularly huge mintage, because silver speculators shrewdly removed the pieces from circulation as soon as they were issued. Vast quantities of rolls were melted circa 1980, or were indifferently stored in bags, and high grade survivors are surprisingly rare. [NGC]
