African Black Soap
African Black Soap (Anago Soap, Alata Simena,or Ose Dudu), has long history in Africa. It has natural antiseptic and healing properties. Said to prevent fine lines, evening out dark spots, eczema, razor bumps and eliminating blemishes. Good for sensitive skin. But is effective on any skin type and any hair type (yes, use it as a shampoo, especially if you suffer from dry scalp or dandruff).
Black soap is traditionally made in west Africa, typically Ghana, from secret recipes. Different tribes and communities have adopted their own specific (secret) blend of oils and cooking techniques, which can be seen in the different color variations among black soap. The ash itself was often used to heal cuts. Varieties of black soap actually made in Africa tend to be pure, while soaps made in Europe or the US tend to have added artificial ingredients.
Our Black soap is made from a 500 year old Kenyan family recipe, with ingredients originating from that family. However it is prepared in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee, using the original hand craft method. No electricity or machinery. The process itself takes about 3 months.
The plantain skins give the soap Vitamin A & E, and iron. Because the soap has the highest Shea butter content of any soap, it also offers UV protection. The soap is also good for sensitive skin, meaning its a good option for babies or the elderly. Some people with caffeine sensitivities may need to test out soap that contains cocoa pods as there is some evidence that the caffeine can be transmitted through contact with the skin.
The soap itself lathers exceptionally well, although it does take a little more effort than commercial soaps. A small amount about the size of a pea may be placed in your hand pump & mixed with water.
The best beauty routine is to wash completely using black soap, then apply pure Shea, including a small amount of Shea to the hair as a leave in conditioner.
We also use Black Soap to wash our dogs. Apart from the monetary savings from all the overpriced pet products, it has been effective in eliminating the need for additional chemicals in flea treatments. Roxy (the terrier/pit bull mix) is so silky soft, she is our best sales person, once she has been petted by someone, it is hard not to sell them our product!
