Item specifics Condition: Acceptable : Seller Notes: “Old paperback, still readable but has been read many times. Fragile” Subject: Young Adult Story Country of Manufacture: United States Publication Year: 1977 Format: Paperback Language: English ISBN: 044049205X Paperback: 156 pages Publisher: Dell (1977) Language: English ISBN-10: 044049205X ISBN-13: 978-0440492054 Product Dimensions: 7.7 x 5.1 x 0.7 inches Shipping Weight: 1.6 ounces Veronica had a good idea who had been throwing her coat off the hook and putting tacks on her seat - the same kid who was tormenting her with those maddening jingles: Peter Wedemeyer. Peter had been asking for it. He was new in the class, and every new kid, sooner or later, had to be educated. Nobody else in the class would dare to tangle with her. They'd all been through it already one way or another. The girls were easy, but Veronica didn't really enjoy fighting with girls. They just stood there and cried. The boys were more interesting. Frank Scacalossi, for instance. But Veronica's strategy failed again and again with Peter, who, although he only came up to her shoulder, outfoxed her each time she got within reach of him. She needed a new weapon to beat Peter. Then one day something new happened to Veronica; she did something she had never done before, and she discovered that the "weapon" she had been searching for was one she had possessed all along. I have read this book from the time I was a teenager and I have really enjoyed this book! Marilyn Sachs really has a gift for writing about the subjects she's chosen and this book really comes to life with the way Veronica Ganz is portrayed in this book! She's a tough customer! She won't tolerate ANYONE talking about her or her family and physically would get back at the girls yet it was hard for her to get back at the guys! The "shrimps": Sanford Feldman, Howard Tannenbaum and NOW, Peter Wedemeyer really fixed her good for any attempts to mess around with them! It showed the the size of the boy who put Veronica in her place didn't make any difference! Even though Veronica was bigger, she couldn't compete with these little guys who fixed her when she tried to tangle with them! They put Veronica in her place! Dawn E. Lowenstein
