My favourite: Lottery
Part love story, part moral tale, this debut novel is funny and touching by turns, reminding us that wealth doesn't always equate to happines, or a high IQ to being smart. The 31-year old hero, Perry L. Crandall, is a little slow, but he's not stupid. In fact he's a but of a student of human nature. His grandmother taught him a lot of things, including how to find new words in the dictionary. Perry likes listening to people, which makes him, in his own new vocabulary, an auditor. So when he wins the state lottery and has more money - and devoted relatives - than he could have dreamed of, he's able to work out who his true friends are, and what's really important for a happy future.
