Issue Date: 1986 Writer: John Byrne Artist: John Byrne Inker: Dick Giordano Colorist: Tom Ziuko Letterer: John Costanza Editor: Andrew Helfer Publisher: DC Comics Characters Featured Lois Lane Superman Mayor Frank Berkowitz Villains Featured Lex Luthor Notes Lois arrives at the apartment of Clark Kent, ready to head off to a party on Lex Luthor's yacht. Lois is still harboring resentment for Clark beating her to the punch on the Superman headline. After South American revolutionaries start a hostage situation aboard the boat, Clark gets himself "thrown overboard" so Superman can show up and save the day. After deposing the hostage takers and saving the ship, Luthor offers Superman a large sum of money to work for LexCorp. Superman refuses. Luthor reveals that he kept his security guards from stepping into action, because he wanted to see what Superman could do. Mayor Frank Berkowitz of Metropolis hears this and appoints Superman as a special deputy, so he can arrest Luthor on the charge of reckless endangerment. Luthor is thrown in the county jail. Three days later, Superman flies down into the subway system to take a pregnant woman to the hospital to deliver her child. Upon leaving the hospital, Superman can tell that his picture was just taken. Unaware of where the photographer is, he decides to go about his business. Lex Luthor, who was released from jail in under two hours, is out there. He yells over at Superman, and beckons him to come near. Luthor then proceeds to tell Superman how Metropolis still belongs to Lex Luthor, and then warns him that one day, sooner or later, he plans on killing Superman.
