The 2011 Patriot Classic Sept. 9 and 10 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
The six-game event starts with a doubleheader on Sept. 9, as Bishop McNamara faces Landon School (Bethesda) at 5 p.m. and DeMatha takes on Calvert Hall (Baltimore) at 7:30 p.m. A quadrupleheader on Sept. 10 starts at 10:45 a.m. with Potomac playing Archbishop Spalding (Severn).
The rest of the Sept. 10 schedule includes Annapolis Area Christian against Red Lion Christian (Del.) at 1:45 p.m., Gonzaga (D.C.) vs. St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) at 4:45 p.m., and Gilman (Baltimore) vs. Good Counsel (Olney) at 7:45 p.m.
The Patriot Classic is being organized by Bowie-based Extra Point Productions, which also is running the second-annual I-95 Kickoff Classic on Sept. 1-3 at Bowie State University and Morgan State. Extra Point's Tony Kennedy said he developed the idea five years ago to organize a football event at the Naval Academy's stadium to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"Most of these kids who will play in these games were 5 and 6 and 7 years old when Sept. 11 happened," Kennedy said. "That brings some perspective to it."
Kennedy said each of the six games will honor a different branch of the armed forces, with ceremonies recognizing the Coast Guard and National Guard at the Sept. 9 games and the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force on Sept. 10.
All six games will be broadcast on US Sports Radio and networked throughout the region and around the US on the Sportsbyline Radio Network and its affiliates.
