Why does TripleClicks require avatars and usernames? Why not just photographs and real names?

The whole point of usernames and avatars at TripleClicks is to protect your privacy as a member. 

At TripleClicks, there are many things that you may not wish others to know about and which they have no business knowing about. Perhaps you play games 10 hours a day or participate in auctions until 3 a.m. every night. Perhaps you are selling something that you don't want others to know you are selling, such as your jewelry, which could make you a target of thieves. Many people would have nothing to do with TripleClicks if we did not provide them with a way to shield themselves from the eyes of the public, friends, employers, etc.
