The Country today known as Zimbabwe was a self governing British Colony called Southern Rhodesia. In 1965 Prime Minister, Ian Smith, unilaterally declared Independence from Britain Commonly known as Rhodesian UDI As a result new coinage was introduced and in the 1975-1977 strikings the Queens head was replaced with the Rhodesian Coat of Arms and the words RHODESIA on the obverse. The 1977 striking was the last before the introduction of the Zimbabwe currency. This is an uncirculated 5c from the last striking in 1977
