Fromin source From a geographical perspective, the territory in the surroundings of the abstraction well is a part of the Česká Lípa Region Basin, which was formed by the tectonic depression of strata in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. The groundwater stems from quartz sandstone strata of the Jizera Formation with marked block cleat (so-called sandstone blocks) from depths of 160-280 m below the existing terrain level. The Formation of quartz sandstone relates to the deposit of predominantly sandy material in a cretaceous sea over the course of 10 million years. During this period, the deposits of sand reached a thickness of up to 400m. The age of the strata, which is the source of groundwater from the well, is estimated at 88-90 million years. The source of this underground water is atmospheric precipitation (originally a glacier considering the age of the water), which penetrate into the horizon of the water-bearing layers of sandstone blocks from the territory of the Lusatian Fault, where sandstone blocks protrude to the surface. This area is about 9-10 km northeast from the abstraction well. Water from atmospheric precipitation, which seeps into the slightly inclined sandstone strata, flows very slowly through gaps between sandstone grains and along the crevices in this sandstone until it finally flows into the erosion incisions of the Ploučnice River, from where the water naturally springs to the surface stream of the Ploučnice and its tributaries. Groundwater flows very slowly within the horizon of quartz sandstone of the Jizera Formation, the chemical properties of this groundwater are affected by leaching mineral elements from surrounding strata. Thus the groundwater has a neutral to slightly alkaline reaction, it is medium hard with a rather constant quality and corresponds to CA-HCO3 type water. It is very high quality groundwater, healthy for the human body, free of all harmful substances and satisfactory as natural spring water from all aspects. The unique journey of Fromin water In the last Ice Age, the mountainous landscape of today’s Northern Bohemia was covered by a glacier, the source of which was atmospheric precipitation.
