These baskets are a great alternative to plastic bags!! Good for the planet, fair trade, durable and beautiful!
75 women in northern Ghana are directly employed to make our beautiful, high quality baskets. The women are all part of a widows weaving cooperative.
Handwoven from a local grass native to West Africa, elephant grass, the baskets come in one large size and will vary in both design and color. Handles are goatskin leather wrapped for extra strength and comfort. Very strong and durable!
Our baskets make a "" conscious choice" alternative to plastic and paper bags! Their size makes them PERFECT for shopping and going to market, carrying personal belongings, laundry, anything you can think to carry!
Our baskets can be rolled, folded, even squashed down! Immerse briefly in water, and re-shape by hand to return to original shape!
Each basket is a beautiful work of art, and a beautifully unique expression of the women who weave them.
Size: 14-16" wide, 6-8" deep
FACT:
Basket weaving is a traditional craft of the Fra-Fra women of Northern Ghana. The Widow's Weaving Cooperative was started to help these women, often the poorest and most vulnerable in the rural subsistence farming villages where they live, have a means to feed, clothe, and educate themselves and their children. Fair Trade is making a difference in their lives.
